AWARD SHOW HELL: The big thing on the calendar last week was the 22nd Annual Juno Awards – “The Night Canadian Music Comes Home.” Unfortunately, backstage at least, this thing moved more like a funeral march than a rock ‘n’ roll show. Oh well , at least the refreshments were complimentary. Spotted around the house were [014-001], Leonard Cohen and Rebecca De Mornay – who get my vote as best looking couple Also, [014-002] Julie Masse, who got the prize for most promising female vocalist, and [014-003] The Skydiggers, most promising group. Or, as they thought, group who had the most promises made to them. And, finally, [014-004] Maria Bach, wife of Skid Row singer Sebastian, who gets my thumbs-up for best, true rock ‘n’ roll outfit.

CHUNK-0-FUN: Local funksters Chunk-0-Funk funkatized the BamBoo for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The nine-piece outfit [014-022], featuring Joe Cuba Jr., Lincoln Phayze, Lick ‘Em Stick Jamson, Styles Bitchley, Football Handsome, Saucy O’Grady, Jr. Low Blow Love Bud III, Professor Ltd. and Ellion Leeps III, are stuck in a ’70s time vortex but don’t want to leave.

Singer and Juno nominee Michelle Wright at the fourth annual Rock 'N Bowl in March 1993.

ROCK ‘N BOWL: The fourth annual version of this pre-Junos charity fund raiser took place Saturday night at Classic Bowl in Mississauga. The venue was stuffed with 60 lanes of music industry and media types trying their hand at Fred Flintstone’s fave pastime. In the lanes to support the cause were Juno nominees [014-046] Michelle Wright and [014-047] Devon and Buffy Sainte-Marie. I don’t know if you’re the suspicious type, but the artists who showed did go on to win the next night. Hmm …

More rockin’ bowlers in the carousel of outtakes.
