“BLUE RODEO AND FRIENDS” played Dec. 30 to a packed and enthusiastic crowd at the Phoenix. Caught upstairs were (Photo 003-001, above) Lori Yates, left, after singing with the band, Paul Farberman, vice-president of Music Business Affairs for Universal Pictures, and actress Shawna Smith. Other friends who showed up to perform with the band included Colin Cripps of Crash Vegas, Gordon Cummings of The Lawn, Jack DeKeyzer, Andrew Cash, Gord Downie from Tragically Hip, Molly Johnson and Ian Blurton from Change of Heart. After the show (photo 003-002, below), Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy acted goofy with his older brother, lawyer Loftus J Cuddy, right. Can you sue for embarrassment?

NOW THE RIVOLI , THAT WAS A PARTY: Three bands- Scott B. Sympathy, The Lawn and Change of Heart — a packed room, and absolutely nowhere for the audience to run. Except maybe to the washroom area in the back, where I found (photo 003-013, below) Gary Robertson, lead guitar for The Lawn, and Change of Heart’s Ian Blurton in his party hat. In the Rivoli audience- and obviously unable to believe their eyes- were (photo 003-014) guitarist Erin Palmer and drummer Kim Malwah, of the band Urban Sprawl. Gord Cummings of The Lawn did the Rivoli’s official countdown to midnight, announced the hockey score for the night and then told the crowd: “Avert your eyes I There are men on stage kissing!” With that he proceeded to land smooches on a few of his fellow musicians, including John Barra, (photo 003-015, below). who sings for Change of Heart
