CARIBANA?: It looked like Caribana, sounded like Caribana and smelt like Caribana, but was it Caribana? Well, there were some people dancing in the street [033-001], at the parade that is the centrepiece of the annual Caribbean festival. However, due to the 4 km of barricades and solid police presence, the vast majority of the crowd just stood around and watched, including [033-002, l-r] Michael and John Doe, who were none too happy. Said Michael, “People want to dance and if they can’t dance, then this thing’s gonna die fast.” Apparently, some felt that the best parade is an interactive one. Also taking in the sights along Lakeshore Blvd. were [033-003, l-r] first-time parade goer Michael, 4, with his uncle Kevin; a few of the volunteers [033-004], getting hot and heavy; and, from the “weirdest costume of the day” file we have [033-005] Nadine in her “Seven Deadly Sins” outfit. We’ll leave the interpretation up to you. Many – too many – never published previously outages [033-006 to 033-041] follow. Were you there?

FIRE BENEFIT: To help out the survivors of the fire that ravaged Kensington Market last week, a few locals put together a benefit show to raise money and other necessities: food, clothes, appliances, etc. It was supposed to happen at Lionheart Studios but the fire department said nyet to that idea, so the fine folks at the Last Temptation stepped in as a last-minute venue. The brains and help behind this good cause ·were [033-042, l-r] receiver of the money (i.e., door person) Anita Shewchuk and co-ordinators Charmalee Knox and Alex Donald. Among the musical acts on the bill were [033-043, l-r] the returned-to-three Leslie Spit Treeo – Pat Langner, Jack Nicholsen and Laura Hubert -and [033-044] Andrew Cash. Also along for the cause- and out past their bedtime- were [033-045, l-r] Josiah, 3, with his friends, brothers Reuben, 7, and Luke, 6. If you want to contribute call ???-DRUM or XXX-XXXX. Be sure to check out the never seen before outtakes [033-046 to 033-053].

MAN OF THE MOMENT: Man of La Mancha opened to much fanfare at the Royal Alex last week, and, appropriately enough, there was an opening-night party at Ed’s Follies. Among the many members of the theatre community who made appearances – and took advantage of the fine free food and desserts – were [033-055, l-r] the stars of the show, Susan Gilmour and Michael Burgess. Hanging around the back were [033-056, l-r] (Broadway bound?) actor Grant Cowan, Blythe Wilson (Antonia) from the La Mancha cast, and “currently just auditioning” actors Dan Chameroy and Christine Donato. While all the schmoozing was going on inside, out on the steps we found [033-056, l-r] actor Art Hindle (E.N.G.) and his best buddy Gideon Botsford. Familiar faces in the outtakes include [033-057 and 033-058] prima ballerina, Karen Kain with her husband, actor / theatre producer Ross Petty. [033-060 and 033-061] Actors Harvey Atkin and Al Waxman.
