FAB FASHION FUND RAISER: Fashion Cares, the annual fundraiser for the AIDS Committee of Toronto, took place in the atrium of BCE Place on Saturday. Attracting a crowd of 1,200 and raising more than $200,000 for an excellent cause, this was the event of the week, buckaroos. Following a huge dinner came the main event, a fashion show that combined music, fashion, acrobatics and dance. This wasn’t just clothes – this was theatre. Among the crowd of well-wishers was [021-001, L-R] artist Emmanuel Lopez of Crackers International, seen here with the event’s co-ordinator, Janet Petruck. 1 INTO 36: Partially as a response to the Junos’ habit of giving out only one jazz award per year, Jazz Report – the definitive quarterly on the state of the art – decided to stage its own event. To that end, the first annual Jazz Report Awards show was held last week at the Bottom Line in Yorkville, where 36 separate awards were given away. Among the very cool, ever-hip crowd were [021-043] Jeff Jones, who thought he was invited to the show to sit in with the band but was very happy to find out he was, in fact, a winner as best male vocalist. Also winning were [021-044. L-R] Rita Chiarelli, best blues artist, seen here with MuchMusic guy Michael Williams, on hand to accept the best vocal group award for the Montreal Jubilation Choir. The outtakes can be found in the carousel at the end.
