WEIRD EVENT: DNA Theatre’s 1Oth anniversary production Poundemonium, a three-and-a-half hour theatrical experience that defies description, kicked off last week at St. Paul’s Square. Among the crowd at the evening of poetry, performance and chaos that takes place in a church were [020-001, L-R] actor Tracy Wright (who’s in the play as “Hair Braider”), film director Patricia Rozema, and Juno-award winning video director Curtis Wehrfritz. The behind-the-scenes creative team are [020-002, L-R]: Wendy White, costumes; Steve Lucas, consulting designer; William Holutiak, lighting designer; Ed Fielding, set designer; Dominic Giovinazzo, sound designer; and Hillar Liitoja, who conceived the piece. Also enjoying the night’s proceedings were [020-003, L-R] theatre writer/director Death Waits (who performs and gets billing as “Water Sprayer”) with his friend, airline pilot May Lewis. Were you on hand? The carousel of outtakes follows.
WEIRD SHOW: Following the screenings of Damned in the U.S.A. and Blue, as part of an anti-censorship benefit raising funds for the Glad Day Bookstore and the Coalition Against Film and Video Censorship, there was an anticensorship fetish party at the Dance Cave. Among the participants in the show was [020-013] Daimon of Urban Primitive Body Design, seen here doing a ritualistic branding on Mikey. Also, [020-014, L-R] “two of T.O.’s hottest skinheads,” Kevin and Ted, showed the crowd how they party. The crowd, in return, found them “refreshing.” And last, [020-015, L-R] Marquessa of Auroboros Studios did a bodyscaping (like landscaping) on Velvet Steel with instruments I just can’t describe. WEIRD PLAY: August Strindberg’s The Dance of Death is getting a fresh spin as a tale of a power struggle in a house of vampires at the Equity Showcase Theatre. Among the players hanging around at the opening night party were two of the play’s many “Kurts,” [020-028] Richard Feren (who’s also the music director) and Bruno Miguel, seen here with the director’s wife, Amy Tatian. The director himself, Stephen Seabrook [020-029], also made an appearance. In the hall outside, [020-030] actor Kelly Thornton was feeling the wrath of her ex-roommate, Veronika Hurnik (“Alice” in the play) for falling behind on the phone bill. Take a spin through the carousel of outtakes and see if you recognize anyone.

WEIRD NIGHT: Last Saturday, Studio 69 brought us the first of its new Ra-Saturdays with a crowd that took a while to warm up to the idea of having fun. They decided to watch the hockey game instead. Oh well. After the Leafs won, a few fine folk turned their minds to other recreational pursuits, including [020-041, l-r] model Liz Mico, who’s off to Paris for three weeks, and Groovejack bass player Marc Lindeman. On hand to get the crowd moving their rear ends was the band Bass is Base [020-042, l-r] Primo lnjeti, Chin lnjeti, Ivana Santilli, Koursoh Meshkin and back-up singer Dawn Cumberbatch. Take a spin though there carousel of outtakes to see if anyone you know was there.
