COME HOME TO EXILE: Exile Media Bar, the newest night spot on Queen St. W., had an opening party last week. Among the attendees were [018-001, L-R] Erik Force, the singer in Thundercircus, model Rhonda Towells, Eric Weissman, the operator of the bar, student Rhonda Bregman and her husband, stockbroker (and master of origami), David Bregman. Why a “media bar”? Well, according to Eric W., “It’s calLed Exile because people in the media in this country are in exile from their own homes, and this can be their home.” Well, that would explain the cozy, living-room atmosphere. Helping to keep things going was [018-002, L-R] Danielle Benning and entrepreneur Stephanie Kee. Hanging around the front were [018-003, L-R] musician Johnny Lovesin and Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar, and caught in a real party mood, [018-004, L-R]  songwriter / musician Roger Campopiano and actor/writer Joseph Kilmartin.

SWEET TUNES: Sweet Jones, a local rock ‘n’ roll band with a swagger in their hips and the blues in their hearts, had a CD release party at Lee’s Palace for their first recording, So Live. The guys – [018-022, L -R] Stephen McMinn, Charles Kotlier, Jason Karvice and Mark Crissenger – cranked out a 90 minute-plus set to much enthusiasm from the crowd. On hand to take in the show and offer some support were [018-023, L -R] Rachel Robinson of Diana Williams Promotions and musician Gloria Blais of the Dez Monas.

HOME FOR MISS SAIGON: The brand-spankin’ new Princess of Wales Theatre threw open its doors to the media, letting us poke around the new digs. The $22 million, 2,000-seat facility, built specifically to house Miss Saigon, is now 95 per cent finished, with three weeks to go before the first show. Getting goofy for the cameras and playing with the cake are [018-034, L-R] David and Ed Mirvish, the son and father team that built the place. Taking centre stage to do the intros was [018-035] comedian Sandra Shamas, who now has the distinction of being the first performer to work the stage.
