REALLY BIG SHOW: The Power Plant Gallery at Harbourfront was the site for a new show by General Idea. “Fin de siècle” marks the 25th anniversary of the trio and showed off some of their major installation pieces. We find the
guys from General Idea, [012-001, l-r] Felix Partz, Jorge Zontal and A.A. Bronson, doing their bit for the AIDS Committee of Toronto. They were signing and selling their Putti for contributions to ACT. Getting together in front of one of the installations are [012-002, l-r] artists Fiona Smyth and Erella Vent.









REALLY, REALLY, BIG SHOW: The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television held the 1993 version of the Gemini Awards – honouring the best in CanCan – over the weekend. Showing off his Peach Berserk Cocktails jacket is Ralph Benmergui [012-010]. Among the black-tie crowd were [012-011] Sara Botsford, who scooped a Gemini for best lead actress in a continuing series for her work on E.N.G., with her co-star, Art Hindle. Hanging out in support were [012-012] Yvette Sutherland, from Sunquest Vacations, and Tanya Lee Williams from Y&R, who flew in from L.A. for the event Getting huggy-huggy afterwards were [012-013] Maria del Mar – actress version – from Street Legal and Geraint Wyn Davies from Forever Knight.

EDGEWATER ENERGIZED OPENING: The Edgewater Hotel threw a reopening bash last Saturday to celebrate its – well – reopening The new managers Amy and Peter Gault [012-138] have totally redecorated, revamped the booking policy and turned it into “a heavy-duty place,” according to Amy, who was also celebrating her birthday. Taking in the festivities and a kick-ass set by Groovy Religion were [012-039] Kingi Carpenter, designer for Peach Berserk Cocktails, and Julio Fuego, singer for Baby Judas.
