PRESS SHINDIG FOR JUNOS: The official announcement of the nominees for this year’s Juno Awards took place Feb. 9 at the Glenn Gould Studio in CBC’s swank new Front St. HQ. To start the celebration of “the best in Canadian music,” organizers handed out freebie hats – made in China. Guess Spadina’s too far away. Among the nominees on the scene was Phil X [009-001], the new guitar player for Triumph, with his pal/roadie Gumby, and [009-002] Devon (a.k.a. Mr. Metro), Micah Barnes of the Nylons and Fergus Hambleton from the Sattalites.

Can you identify the faces in the carousel of outakes?

HUSH-HUSH AFTER-HOURS STUFF: The mystery lady continued running the coolest little booze can in town, with live jazz and an erotic art show for Valentine’s Day. Admission is by invite only, and I can say no more. Among the contributing artists was Bonita, [009-009] seen here with her melon creation. The very cool clientele kept the party going all night.

ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE: The St. Valentine’s benefit party for inner-city art centre A Home for Creative Opportunity took place Sunday at the Great Hall. This is how these fundraising events are supposed to be done. A sell-out crowd, amazing line-up on stage, terrific house band, great vibes backstage, top-notch organizing, and a bar staff that donated their tips from the evening to the cause – what more could you want? Totally fab. Co-hosting were [009-025] twins James and John Coburn in their custom “wall” suits. Among the performers hanging out backstage were [009-026] Tom Davis, Lorraine Segato and John Alcorn, who all sang. Getting chummy on the stairs were [009-027] guitarist Ken Myhr in his love beads and singer Rebecca Jenkins, who performed one of her own songs

LA BETE OPENS: The Canadian Stage’s new production of “La Bête” reunites the creative team of artistic director Bob Baker and lead actor Tom Wood, whose performance is a tour de force. Post-show the cast and crew headed over to Le Papillon for a little R&R. Among the attendees were [009-049] actress Lisa Horner, Stratford actor Jeffery Kuhn, Wood and Baker.
