KASHTIN CASH IN: The director of Massey Hall admits to not knowing who they are. I admit to not knowing. But the fans, they understand. Packed house at Massey for this lnnu duo from Québec. Good light show, lots of smoke, amazing sound. So the show is three years old – stop griping already. At the meet ’n’ greet afterwards main guys Claude McKenzie and Florent Vallant sign some autographs [006-001]. Lisa Odjig, [006-002] a dancer in the show, and Don Meunier, the lead guitar player, mingle with their admirers while 11-month-old Angeline [006-003] finds an alternative use for the Blue Box. Bet they make great sleds, too.
Never seen before [006-004 to 006-015]. Do you know their names?

READING TOO MUCH! SITTING TOO ClOSE TO THE TV! The eternal debate continues, as [007-016] Daniel Richler, host, Leanna Crouch, co-producer and Brian Fawcett, author, show the effects of eye fatigue. And with a crack of the rack, the Imprint billiards bash for the Writers Development Trust at the Academy of Spherical Arts was on. I swear I was the only person in the room who didn’t have a book coming out by fall. A couple of us managed to get into some weirdo arguments about change, cigarettes and how to treat a lady, but we wrestled our way out. In [007-017] we find the press-shy, Booker Award-winning author Michael Ondaatje willing to sign a few things for the masses.

TAPE. TAPE. WHO’S GOT THE TAPE? Scott B [007-031] is seen here in the bowels of the Horseshoe. Scott B Sympathy was on hand to show off their new video and play a set in support of the new records, “Drinking With The Poet”. (“It’’s an attitude. Don’t take it literally,” says Scott). They had all the big audio gear in place – and no videotape. After a fast cab ride to the artist’s residence, the show proceeded and the scribes were happy.

SAVE US All! IT’S MANT! Caught the evening premiere of Matinee – a new movie from Joe Dante. Mant, half-man. half-ant, all terror! (Actually half-publicity assistant, half-man in a rubber suit, all cheap camp and we love it.) The audience signed waivers for possible heart attacks brought on by the terror of it all. The turnout was less than spectacular, but maybe the minus-a-zillion cold and ton of snow had something to do with it. Hypothermia can put such a damper on enthusiasm. Screaming for release [007-039] is Nurse Lori Wright, in the grip of the terror known as Mant.
